(The Remains of) Brian Borcherdt - Moments of Protest

You couldn’t talk me back
down or out of that, now
that I have found your secrets out.

No, I can’t speak them. Oh I will,
I will keep them on my tongue.
I can hold them until you come back.

I’ll pitch them into the black,
into the spaces that you have left.
Were all your best moments of protest silent?
With your hands folded across your chest,
there’s no room left to hold your burdens.

No, I cant. I can’t keep them… no I won’t.
I can’t pretend that I don’t know
what you’ve been thinking anymore.
Cause there are no more secrets between us.

I can’t speak them. Oh I will.
I will keep them on my tongue.
I will hold them until you come.

The only way it could be worse and more grating to my ears is if it were performed by Nickelback.

Or the Theory of a Nickel Creed experience.

Halifax is going to bankrupt me...

…if it keeps landing awesome concerts. For reals. As of right now I have tickets for 4 concerts and it seems every day a new one gets announced.

March 7th: Our Lady Peace. Performing Clumsy in it’s entirety from front to back. Automatic Flowers? Car Crash? Ummmm YES. I guess there’s a second set as well with a bunch of their hits.

March 8th: Postdata. Paul Murphy’s (of Wintersleep fame) solo project. Playing in a 60 seat recording studio in downtown Halifax. This album contains probably one of my favourite songs of all time.

March 15th: Jeff Martin. Former Tea Party front-man is playing a solo show at the Carleton. If I missed this, I would likely die considering my love for the Tea Party.

April 14th: Metric. No further comment.

I can never understand the people who give away their pets for stupid reasons.

Moving? Find an apartment that allows animals.  You clearly live in such a situation now… those living arrangements exist! FIND ONE! That’s part of the responsibility of taking on a pet in my opinion.  When I adopted Brandon I knew there would be changes of residence in my future: I considered this and made my decision accordingly.  It will be more difficult for me to find an apartment that allows animals (although cats are far more accepted than dogs).  I may have to live in an apartment that isn’t as nice as one I could get without an animal.  I knew this, and I made this decision as an adult. This is why I couldn’t adopt a puppy even though I’ve desperately wanted to: because I thought it might make the task unnecessarily difficult.  Thinking: everyone should try it.

Allergies? Slightly more understandable, especially if your child is the one with an allergy.  However I’m not sure I buy this whole “I just all of a sudden developed an allergy to cats, even though I’ve had mine for 7 years, oh well!”. My mom is allergic to everything under the sun and we have 2 dogs and an indoor cat and horses and cows and on and on.  She deals! Take a pill if it’s only a mild allergy! I have never been allergic to any animals, except one: Rocky.  I am wildly allergic to Rocky.  My favorite animal on the planet.  I still hug and love and kiss and cuddle and play fight with him non stop and we certainly didn’t consider giving him up.

“We don’t have the time he/she deserves”- why did you get an animal?  Having owned animals my whole life… they don’t need THAT MUCH time/energy.  Especially cats… they’re fairly self-sufficient, you can go to work all day and not feel terribly guilty.  You have to consider the needs of a pet before you get a pet.

And this… this is the argument that pains me the most.  “The new puppy/kitten doesn’t get along with the old cat/dog… so we’re giving away the old cat/dog.” WHAT!??!!?!??!

**I’m not trying to say there are never circumstances that relocating your pet is for the best.  I’m saying that surfing Kijiji makes my blood boil because most, MOST of those cases, could have been avoided or are weak cases at best**

Amen. Fucking AMEN.

Aye.

Aye.

mausoleum:

Sequence 1, Sequence 2… Sequence A, Sequence W.

Holy moly… it is fairly challenging to make a sequence for this record. This before that, that there before this and not 2. You don’t want to make something bloated. A bloated record is agreeably not the most enjoyable of records. 10 or 11, if there is 11 why not 12? This time around, its hard to point out the excess. Which is great but makes this part of the record making very… difficult.

There are records with 10, 11, and 12 that we love. 43 minutes ish. Can’t do that with 12… or 11. Aye Carumba, which of these numbers.

Having said that… we are calling it “New Inheritors” these days and we will love her no matter what.
